Week of November 23rd:
There will be no Math or Phonogram homework for this week. Please continue to review (and add the new ones) phonogram cards daily. Also, please be sure to read for at least 15 minutes per night.
Week of November 16th:
We will begin writing 10 phonograms a night, 3 times each. We will also have 2 spelling words on Monday, and 3 spelling words on Tuesday.
There will be NO homework Wednesday night for the concert.
We will also have Math homework every night but Wednesday, as well as 15 minutes of reading.
I did have a discussion with the class about responsibility and their book bags/ books. I remind students several times before they leave to bring their book bags home. I have also noticed a high number of missing books. If your child does not bring home their reading book, please have them read another book at home. We want to be sure that students are reading as much as they can on their own now.
Week of November 2nd:
Although I won't update this page all of the time, the homework remains the same. Phonogram/ Spelling homework, 15 minutes of reading, and a Math worksheet.
I do want to send out another note to reiterate the expectations of homework.
Phonogram/ Spelling Homework-
The phonogram/spelling homework reviews some of our previous phonograms. The weekly test is based off of the new phonograms presented in the homework, as well as any other phonograms we have already reviewed (first 26). The page should be cut along the line before the student sits down to perform the homework. They should not be able to see any of the phonograms. An adult should ask them to write the specific phonogram down on the line. We do ask that they use their best Spalding handwriting. Making sure they are starting at the correct spot. We have seen some students just copying the phonograms down. In this case, they aren't learning the phonograms by listening to them.
The same goes for their spelling words. An adult should ask them to write their spelling word (a, it, is, she), and the student should say the sounds of the word before they start writing. We have told the students that they must say tell their pencil what to do. You should be able to hear them saying the sounds before writing them on both the phonograms and words.
Markings on the spelling words will be done Mon- Weds. and no markings will be done on Thursday.
You should also spend time each night reviewing the phonograms with their phonogram cards. Choose the ones that are on the homework as well as others that you know they may struggle with, or whichever you choose. You don't have to spend lots of time going over the cards, you could just go over them once. We want to make sure that the students are reviewing the cards.
Math Homework-
Math homework is sent out each night, even on Fridays. These are all on topics that we have introduced to the class. The students will need help with the instructions. I suggest that you explain to the students the process of completing the paper. If you are unclear of what needs to be done, that is ok. Please have your child attempt to complete the paper the best they can.
This upcoming week will be very much parent led and the students will need assistance.
Thank you!
